Is there street food in Nagorno-Karabakh? And is this basically click-bait? It is a bit of both really. In case you have not been following the news Armenia and Azerbaijan are basically about to go to war over Nagorno-Karabakh.

What is Nagorno-Karabakh?
Quite frankly one of my favorite things it is an unrecognized country! Others include Transnistria and Somaliland. The exciting thing for me here is that I have been to Nagorno-Karabakh almost 8 years ago.
To briefly explain the current beef, Nagorno-Karabakh should be part of Azerbaijan, but they are ethnic Armenians so don’t want to be. Now they are their own little unrecognized country supported by the wonderful Armenians, and to an extent Russia.
Entering Meghri
We had spent a week in Iran, which meant next to no drinking, so when we entered Armenia the sight of strip clubs, bars and well general freedom was quite profound!
Check out my photo of me lovingly looking at bottles of vodka in an Iranian Revolutionary Guards Hat.

Going to Nagorno-Karabakh
From here we went on adventure Stepanakert the capital city of Nagorno-Karabakh. Our first port of call was getting visas, a cheap and easy affair, but as we decided to have them placed in our passports also one that would mean we wouldt be able to travel to Azerbaijan.
How to describe Nagorno-Karabakh?
Our first night happened to be Halloween and we ended up at the only nightclub in Stepanakert where not only were there children present, but the night ended in a food fight, like a real food fight, my only real one to date.
Another highlight was Agdam a town bombed during the war to bits, with the only bits left being parts of the mosque. They call it Europe’s Hiroshima.
Another highlight was a town with a relic Titanic bankrolled by a rather rich former resident which also included his old car as a kind of statue.
Should you visit Nagorno-Karabakh?
Right now probably not! But definitely one of the most amazing places that I have ever been. Is there street food in Stepanakert? I honestly can’t remember, so obviously there is an element of click bait to this….
