Try Not to Explode Over Volcán de Fuego

Volcán de Fuego

2 oz. Casa Dragones Blanco


1 tsp Yellow Chartreuse


1 tsp ancho chile liqueur


1 tsp lemon juice


Add all the ingredients. Add 6 dashes of mole bitters. Stir with a bar spoon to chill. Strain over a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

 

It’s hard to imagine that nearly all of the world’s tequila comes from a single Mexican state, but the small area is exclusive for a good reason. Jalisco’s red volcanic soil is perfect for growing blue agave, and that soil is the inspiration behind Volcán de Fuego, a cocktail created by Omar Terriquez. He designed it in the Bartender Residency program hosted by Tequila Casa Dragones, a program dedicated to crafting unique cocktails that highlight the personality and versatility of tequila and the people who mix it. The Volcán de Fuego is no exception, as it’s flavorful palate makes for a unique experience.

Along with the base of Casa Dragones Blanco, Yellow Chartreuse is added to give this cocktail one hell of a kick. Then chili liquer comes along to really launch the Volcán de Fuego into the stratosphere. Lemon juice smooths out the flavor, but a few dashes of mole bitters and a lemon twist means that the Volcán de Fuego remains strong, spicy, and as praiseworthy as the Jalisco soil it was inspired by.
