A wine to rival anything the best three main Spanish regions (Rioja, Priorat, Ribera Del Duero) have to offer. A simply stunning red, from a prestigious winery, that has been producing world class wines in the central north eastern Toro region of Spain since 1998. Parker regularly rates this wine at 93-95pts and he has done since the first vintage eighteen years ago, he has this particular vintage at 93pts, I’m going one better! At the height of it’s drinking window, some time between 2018-2022, it will usurp that score. Believe me, this is world class.
Numanthia is a brazen, full bodied wine that oozes class and makes a powerful statement! On the nose, huge intense aromas of blackberry, baked plums and mocha, with some beautiful savoury notes also. Incredibly well balanced, with impeccable structure and black tea tannins that’ll do their best to remove your teeth from your mouth, although a lengthy decant does soften these somewhat. Red berries, dried spice, bitter coffee and a lavender clad finish, make for a memorable experience and one I can highly recommend.
Steak frites, Numanthia, long decant, good company – Utopia.
