WEEKEND TREATING THE RIGHT WAY WITH KATIE GRAY
Friday… We made it! Let’s face it, it’s without a doubt the best day of the week closely followed by the two sat right behind it. We all know, weekends are often associated with indulgence, but how do we treat ourselves without falling off the wagon? I’m a firm believer in the 80/20 rule, 80% healthy (with the help of my FFF) and 20% treating myself to my favourite things.
Here are my tips to treating yourself this weekend, without inferring too much with the week’s progress:
1) A tipple or two! I’m not a huge drinker, firstly because I’m the biggest lightweight to hit the town, and secondly due to the repercussions of having to work with a hangover. Motivating someone to get fit and healthy whilst you feel far from it is no way to do the job! Saying this, when it comes to the weekend a drink with friends is one of my favourite ways to unwind. I’ll try to keep my choice clean, which actually is relatively easy to do. Drinks such as a white wine spritzer with lots of ice (so it lasts longer) or clear spirits such as a gin and slimline tonic are a great choice when it comes to watching the waistline. I’ll also make sure I drink lots of water to stay hydrated and reduce any of the dreaded ‘hangover cues’ the next day.
2) A blissful lie in! Saturday & Sunday are the two days when more often than not the alarm doesn’t need to be set. Try and sleep without your phone in the room, or at least out of the reach and I promise you’ll sleep in longer in the morning. Sleep is so important to our bodies in so many different ways, from healing and repair to reducing stress levels, so make sure we lap up a good long sleep come the weekend.
3) Sweet tooth! My green and black bag keeps my body happy, and far from hungry Monday to Friday, but when it comes the weekend the chef within likes to show its face! My current favourite ‘go to’ sweet treat are my 5 ingredient banana muffins with a scoop (or two) of Salted Caramel Oppo Ice Cream. It’s heaven in a bowl!
4) Walkin’, Talkin’! For the majority of the week I spend a lot of time in the gym, teaching classes and training, so when
the weekend arrives I like to mix up the exercise by talking a nice long walk. London has so much to explore and partner that with great company you’ve got the perfect weekend activity. Being out in the fresh-air so relaxing, and it’s an excellent way to gently stretch the legs and get the body moving.
5) Epsom Salts! – There’s nothing more relaxing than a Sunday night bubble bath. Pair that with a few large handfuls of Epsom salts and you’ve got the ultimate muscle ‘kickstart’ for the week ahead. I try and stay in the water for a minimum of 20 minutes to allow the salts to work their magic, and sooth the tightness and occasional ache. I can also guarantee come time to tuck in, I’ll sleep like a baby!
