This is a world class wine, showing perfectly and smack bang in the middle of it’s drinking window. Offering genuinely good value for money, circa £30/$44.
The initial medicinal aroma and taste, smack of a heavily aged Bordeaux, but the warmer climate influence means the concentrated fruit just adds a little more power. It’s a thoroughly captivating wine, a real thought provoker if you will, that will have you swirling and sniffing for an eternity.
A fantastic flavour profile of incredible depth. Blackcurrant and vanilla, with subtle red fruit playing a supportive role alongside some beautiful savoury notes. Fantastic oak integration, with creamy sweet vanillin caressing the palate and a multitude of forest floor elements (mossy, dank, woody) adding a whole other dimension.
Ribena-esque in colour, fading to a slight bricked hue. Medium bodied, linear acidity, velvety tannins, distinct aroma and flavour intensity, with a finish fit for a King (and Queen!). Incredibly nuanced and elegant. You won’t find a Burg or Bdx to rival this for anything close to the same price.
