21st Amendment Makes Breakfast in Beer

Beer for breakfast!

Okay, maybe not. But how about a beer that tastes like breakfast?

That’s what 21st Amendment Brewery did with its new Toaster Pastry Beer. The beer is an India-style Red Ale with a sweet, toasty nose and flavors similar to strawberry jam. A sip from this can will you take you back to the days of Toaster Strudel and Pop Tarts before school.

According to the Bay Area brewers, the beer is an homage to their new brewery’s history as factory for producing toaster pastries. Before you write off this beer as some sort of experimental high school dream, know that it has a passing grade with experts. The 7.6 percent, 74 IBU beer won a silver medal in the Double Red Ale Category at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival.

My advice: don’t skip a beer inspired by the most important meal of the day.
